A young man, Jack Neufield, discovers “The Theory of Everything” and uses it to build a vehicle that reverses gravity. Only one problem, it needs a powerful isotope to work, i.e., fly.
Regrettably, Jack is seen stealing Cobalt 60 from his nurse-girlfriend’s hospital. With the authorities in hot pursuit, he still manages a trial run, and it works better than expected – it smashes through the roof!
On the Far-side of the Moon, a “space-based edifice” awaits just such an event – humankind’s discovery of the “The Law of Connections.” What Jack alone has just demonstrated knowledge of. The entity rescues Jack, who’s close to death, and thus chapter one concludes, and the adventure begins; “The First Born,” alien invasion, the search for immortality, in other words: humanity’s journey to "the Fourth Level.”

The Universe has been organized. By whom? Naturally, by “Those Who Came First,” known collectively as the First Born. Unfortunately for us . . . they all left (?). But they left behind “Caretakers” to watch and wait for the embryotic civilizations to emerge. And the qualifying standard for said organization, the Continuum, is knowledge of “4,3,” the Law of Connections. The theory that connects all. What Jack alone of Earth’s 8 billion people discovered. But his secret slips out, and the Earth “Emerges” anyway, meaning contact is now permitted, in particular by the Pra’at (the Grays), our only galactic neighbor. And the term contact can easily be confused with the word – invade. To forestall this and to buy Earth some time, Jack and Jane are given tasks to perform. They almost succeed; too bad the Caretakers can’t get along. The story continues in book 3 – “First Contact.” It happens but for whom and by what?
